International Klein Blue, According To Google Image Search
Yves Klein’s iconic International Klein Blue, a specific mix of ultramarine pigment and clear resin, creates a vibrancy and depth to the artist’s paintings and sculptures that cannot be accurately reproduced digitally – one must view the work in person to truly experience the power of IKB. However, as cataloguing, exhibitions, sales and research have moved to the digital world, so, too, must representations of Klein’s patintings.
International Klein Blue, According To Google Image Search re-interprets publicly viewable digital images of Klein’s paintings and sculptures featuring his patented color, emphasizing the variability and unpredictability of digital representations of a visually uniform media.
Color data from this project is adapted from my research paper, Accurate Representations of Digital Copyslides: The colour of Yves Klein (Electronic Visualisation and the Arts, Proceedings of EVA London 2020).
